> Preipheral smear of patient with iron deficiency anemia.
> The red cells show classic increased ccentral pallor. Normally the central pallor of a red cell represents appropximately 1/3 of the diameter. In iron deficiency, decreased hemoglobin content in the red cell leads to increased central pallor and smaller cells than normal.
> This is referred to as hypochromic/microcytic anemia, and is classic for IDA and thalassemia.
